Who will fix the moon?
The evening settled and Hope had to go to bed. She snuggled up to Mikey and Nina, the Rag Twins, who helped her to fall asleep each evening. Mummy and Daddy turned out the light and wished her good night. Then all three of them, Hope, Mikey and Nina, looked out of the window into the dark night.
„Oh dear,” Hope exclaimed, „There`s a half of the Moon missing today! Look!”
„It`s true,” said Mikey, „the Moon should be round!”
Nina nodded. Because Mikey was her twin brother, they always shared the same thoughts.
„What should we do?”
Hope was on the verge of tears and but for the ever prankish Mikey, her bed would have been wet with tears in the morning.
„The Moon has to be big and round, so that he can peeks into the beds of all children and sees if they sleep well,” Nina joined the conversation. „So we have to find him and fix him.”
„But how?” wondered Hope.
„Probably,” the clever Mikey got an idea, „Ah, well… Somebody probably cut a piece of him and carried it away.”
„You are really funny, ” the laughter was already creeping into Hope`s cheeks, „What can anyone do with half a moon?”
Mikey grew thoughtful and silent for a while.
„I know, I know,” he suddenly started gibbering with his painted little mouth, „He wanted the Moon to light up his home. He cut away a big piece and carried it away.”
„What do you think,” Nina asked in a sad voice, „Will he give it back?”
„Oh, no. He won`t,” said Hope, „We have to look for the Moon by ourselves.”
„We won`t find the Moon by ourselves. We`d better call the Tiny Repairmen. They find all the lost toys at night, they put away those which lie around and repair the broken ones.”
„Do you think they can actually find and repair the Moon as well?”
„Of course they can,” Mikey assured them, „They will find him, after all he glitters in the dark.”
„And fix him too,” quickly added Nina, „They have tiny hammers and nails, isn`t it so?”
„And how are we suppose to let them know?” Hope was worried.
„Leave that to us. They help toys, that is why they only listen to toys,” the Rag Twins told Hope. „Just fall asleep peacefully, you`ll see that the Moon will be big and round again!”
In a few days Hope remembered the Moon again. Before falling asleep she looked out of the window into the dark night. The Moon was big and round again.
